Is it Painting or photography? Everybody seeing the works of Daniela Finke for the first time will ask this question. The reason is they remind you to an impressionistic painting due to their fuzzy outlines. Without a doubt the winner of the „Architecture photography price 2005“ has found the ideal expression in the combination of photography and digital production for her artistical visions.

Thereby, the Berlin artist points out, that the processing has to subordinate to the topic of the work: “Technique is a means to an end.” In paintings the draft often stands at the beginning of a work, while the origin for Daniele Finke is the photographed motive where she is altering outlines and colours of plains until artworks are developed with a distinctive picture language surprisingly intensive. The series are showing late sommerly impressions from the italian bathing resort Viareggio at the toscanian coast (Off-Season) or scenes out of sport events (Sport Season).

Viewers are suddenly whisked away from the enchanting peacefulness of the coast to the fast-paced beginning of the next summer’s season, where they’re reminded of their own impressions and voices.

Daniela Finke’s works have travelled the world throughout the past year, finding themselves on display at the Artfair Scope in New York and London, as well as in ARD’s main studio in Berlin and Hamburg’s "Museum of Work"
