Eve and Adam... A subject since the beginning of the human consciousness. The
permanent search for the lost feeling of safety and protection. An image of life, full of colour however lucent, almost surreal, transcendent. So surreal and spiritual like the "cherubims", witness of our alleged collective liability, developed from the decision made
in familiarity to be free in all acts, the arrogance to enter a divine level. Umpire about our destination: The loss of the devine safety.
The human being in liberty, effigy of its God, bear the blame for the consequences of his own decisions.

The Eye of God is generally conceived as being the principal all-seeing power. Through his two-piece work "Adam und Eva die Schlange und der Baum" (Adam and Eve the Snake and the Tree) and "Verlust der göttlichen Sicherheit" (Loss of Divine Safety),
Martin Blankenhagen expressed the following - and still existent - conflict: "protected without knowledge or free but without divine
safety …". The artist used this work to explore the question of when exactly is the first moment that safety and freedom are jeopardised - a moment during which the human being also revealed his own vulnerability.

Martin Blankenhagen reminds us in his work that today's tensions represent a constantly repeated aspect: compromises relating to
our freedom are in conflict with our desire for safety.

"Sicher reisen" (Travel safely) is one from several virtual prototypes, you can change your appearance in a fictitous clinical practice for "digital plastic surgery".
So this prototype offers a "fake-possibility" for everybody to travel safe. By the adaptation of the ethnic criterias to the one of the people living in the country of destination, the traveller is assimilated at least externally to the foreign culture. You do not attract attention as a tourist whereby you can consort more open and more safely in the foreign country.

Safety is bound to identity more than ever today. Identity, in turn, can be manipulated more than ever: the digital media and technologies in cosmetic surgery make this possible. In her work "Sicher reisen" (Travel Safely), which is part of an artistic project entitled "Digital Plastic Surgery", Oxana Jad analyses the drive for personal and global safety as well as the application of digital media in the quest for freedom and safety. And in this aspect, the artist examined the dangers of xenophobia and racism. Topics she treated very subtly but with great clarity in her work "Travel Safely".

In her work "Netzwerk" (Net-work"), printed on hand-made paper,
the artist Ilse Hilpert alluded to the complexity of network cogitations. Nets, she says, can offer safety (safety nets), can save lives (jump nets) and nets can also limit freedom. The work brings to mind that nets catch, but also capture - and that the human being is often helplessly at the mercy of nets.
